Bulgaria ranks 46th in democracy index among 167 countries

Bulgaria is ahead of four countries in the EU when democracy is considered, but overall its quality has remained virtually unchanged since 2006, according to the annual Index of Democracy 2018 by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

In the report, the situation in this country has been defined as "flawed democracy" and is ranked 46th out of 167 countries. In comparison to other EU countries, Poland placed 54th, Hungary 57th, Croatia 60th and Romania 66th.
