Bulgaria’s state energy company Bulgartransgaz announced that due to the reversion of the direction of the gas supplies through the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline on April 1, 2019, it will increase by 400% the transferring capacity for gas imports (Greece to Bulgaria) via Kulata-Sidirocastro station. Gazprom warned that in 2020 it will suspend supplies of gas from Ukraine to North Macedonia and Greece through Romania and Bulgaria. That is why the Bulgarian gas operator is planning to use the spare capacity of the gas pipeline for gas transfer from south to north direction. The change will allow for imports of gas from the LNG terminal in Revithoussa and the future gas terminal in Alexandroupolis.
