Proposed toll taxes in Bulgaria are at a European average or lower: Minister Petya Abvramova

Toll taxes for trucks of 3.5 to 12 tons in this country will be the lowest in Europe. For vehicles over 12 tons the tax will be equal to the European average. For buses the toll tax proposed equals the sum now paid in vignette fees, said Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Petya Avramova at the start of negotiations with hauilers over toll tariffs.

The new system includes 10,800 of the total of 20,000 kilometres of the national road network. 30,000 kilometres – 10,000 national and 20,000 kilometres of municipal roads - will be free of charge for heavy duty traffic.

70 percent of Bulgarians want trucks to pay more for damage to roads, a regional ministry study shows. Annual revenues are expected to be 550 million euro, 15 percent of which will go to support the toll system
