Three companies have submitted bids for two new multipurpose patrol ships for the Bulgarian navy, the Ministry of Defence has announced.

They are the German Fr. Lurssen Werft GmbH & Co.KG, the Bulgarian MTG Dolphin and the Italian Fincantieri. After an evaluation of the tenders by an interministerial committee, the Council of Ministers will approve the definitive ranking.

According to the assignment, the ships must be applicable in a wide range of NATO and EU sea operations, and are to replace the old Soviet ships which are not subject to modernization. The maximum estimated value of the updated project is 503 million euro, VAT included.
