At its latest plenary session the European Parliament adopted the new deal for consumers package by force of which the sale of the same foods with different ingredients under the same brand is considered to be unfair commercial practice.

The Ministry of Agriculture in Sofia welcomed the act, adding that since 2017 Bulgaria has been among the most active countries in an effort to resolve the problem of double standards for food. In 2018 Sofia organized a high-level forum on the subject within the frameworks of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
