Bulgarian climber Ivan Tomov scaled the fourth highest peak in the world – Lhotse (8516 m.) at 9.40 local time with Russian climber Nastya Runova, and without additional oxygen or help from Sherpas.

At the end of September 2017 Tomov climbed Manaslu (8156 m.), and in 2014 - Broad Peak (8047 m.) together with renowned climber Boyan Petrov.

Lhotse is the first peak over 8,000 metres to have been climbed by Bulgarians – on 30 April, 1981 it was scaled by Hristo Prodanov. A day ago two Bulgarians, Atanas Skatov and Stefan Stefanov, climbed Kangchenjunga, the third tallest peak in the world (8586 m.).
