Photo: library

Analysis of the National Social Security Institute registered increase in the volume of unemployment benefits paid in times of record-low unemployment. In 2018 the money paid for unemployment benefits was 10% more than in 2017. Last year 72,000 jobless people received EUR 220 million. Five years earlier 100,000 unemployed received only EUR 46 million. The average unemployment benefit increased 80% in five years, whereas the average salary in Bulgaria increased with 39% only. The sharp increase of the unemployment benefits is due to the high unemployment benefits paid to Bulgarians who worked abroad and were registered as unemployed in Bulgaria.
