Parliament rejects presidential veto on F-16 fighter aircraft deal

After two hours of debates, Bulgarian parliament rejected the presidential veto on the law ratifying the agreements on the acquisition of eight F-16 Block 70 aircraft.

President Rumen Radev contested the ratification with the motive that it was approved in haste and without a debate. The ruling GERB party called the veto misplaced and said it aimed to break the deal so negotiations with other countries can be started. The price negotiated with USA is 1.07 billion euro (2.1 billion Leva) for 8 fighter jets. The agreements on the acquisition of the fighter aircraft will be submitted for ratification.
