Mountain running race to Cherni Vrah peak to be held on August 25

The 124th anniversary of the Organized Tourist Movement in Bulgaria will be marked this Sunday (August 25) with various sports events in Vitosha Mountain near Bulgaria’s capital Sofia. At the end of August, 1895, the celebrated Bulgarian writer Aleko Konstantinov climbed the highest peak on Vitosha-mount Cherni Vrah together with 300 enthusiasts and mountaineers during the first mass mountain hike in Bulgaria. At 7 am on Sunday (August 25) a group of people will set off from the Golden Bridges locality towards Cherni Vrah. At 8 am another group will set off from the village of Zheleznitsa to Cherni Vrah. The traditional mountain running race Vitosha Run begins at 9 am and the participants will cover the distance between the Sofia city center and Cherni Vrah mount. One of Bulgaria’s best mountain runners Shaban Mustafa will try to cover the distance in less than 1.36:45 minutes. A rich festive programme begins at 12 pm.
