Cooperation between Bulgaria and USA in energy sphere is of strategic interest to both countries

Bulgaria’s Premier Boyko Borissov met with Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Non-Proliferation Christopher Ashley Ford. Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier Tomislav Donchev and Bulgaria’s Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova also attended the meeting. The participants at the meeting discussed the cooperation between Bulgaria and the USA in the energy field. Christopher Ford noted that this field is vital to the common strategic interests and the national security of the two countries. Premier Borissov underlined that it is of strategic importance for Bulgaria to retain its key role in the European gas sector. Boyko Borissov empathized the fulfillment of the gas interconnector with Greece and reminded that in 2019 the first supplies of liquefied natural gas from the USA have been made. Premier Borissov, Deputy Premier Donchev and Minister Petkova discussed with Christopher Ashley Ford the potential fulfillment of the Belene nuclear power plant project.
