When you are planning to limit a given resource you need to think of the alternatives, the Chairman of the Union of Hunters and Anglers in Bulgaria Engineer Vasil Vasilev said in connection with the public discussion of the European Chemicals Agency to ban the use of lead in ammunition. If the ban is enforced the interests of the hunters will be seriously threatened. In Vasil Vasilev’s words, the lead is not without alternative, but the alternative metals are not less harmful, they are limited and their price would be much higher. A large number of Bulgarian hunters, especially in the small towns and villages use weapons manufactured over 20 years ago, which are not designed to fire unleaded munitions, Engineer Vasilev noted in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio. The bad would affect all anglers as well, because the proposal of the European Commission aims to restrict the use of lead in fishing weights as well.
