The Orthodox Church marks the Second Day of Christ’s Nativity with solemn liturgies. The second day of the Nativity is known as the Synaxis of the Most Holy Theotokos and is celebrated in honor of the Mother of God. Saint Joseph, spouse of the Mother of God and foster-father of Christ is also honored on this day. He is revered for being the betrothed of the Virgin Mary and the human guardian of the Christ child. That is why Father’s Day is celebrated in Bulgaria on December 26. Saint Joseph lived a virtuous life. He protected Virgin Mary and the Holy Infant from King Herod’s anger and fled with them to Egypt.
