By 8 am on March 23, 19 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours and the total number of registered cases is already 190. This was announced this morning by the head of the National Crisis Staff for combatting the spread of the new coronavirus in the country.

Most new cases are in Sofia, but there is also one case in the town of Pleven. Two patients in Pirogov hospital in Sofia are in critical condition.

Today is the first working day on which the restrictions on travel between regional cities introduced because of the spread of the virus in our country apply. Checkpoints have been set up at the entrances to and exits from  the cities. People passing through them are required to have proof of the reason for their trip - either work, health reasons or returning to their permanent address of residence.

In the last two weeks 200,000 Bulgarians have returned from abroad, as only within the past 24 hours 15,000 Bulgarians have returned home by plane and 8,000 by land border.
