Minister of Agriculture and Food Desislava Taneva said that chain stores in the country are not responding to the proposal of the agriculture ministry for more products made in Bulgaria on the domestic market.

The Ministry of Agriculture proposed that local food producers be given access to every outlet of multinational chain stores. In Minister Taneva’s words it is not normal for chain stores to be selling fresh produce imported by trucks from third countries if the same products are produced just five kilometres away.

After the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency announced that yesterday it had intercepted five tons of tomatoes with a high concentration of pesticides, today it is continuing its inspections as Easter approaches.
