Bulgaria calls on EU to continue financing alternative gas projects

Photo: BGNES

Bulgaria and 7 other EU member states call on the Union to continue financing new gas pipelines as part of the transition to climate-neutral Europe. In a letter, they warn that the banks may not allocate funds for large-scale projects and if the EU withdraws, the large investments made so far are at risk. This will increase prices for end consumers, the governments of the countries note. Bulgaria, Lithuania, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece and Romania are highly dependent on Russian natural gas. They are trying to change this and shift to gas supplies from Norway, the USA, the Caspian region, Qatar or the Eastern Mediterranean, Euractive comments.
