Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova is to submit a “Long-term vision for the development of Sofia up until 2050” for discussion at the Sofia Municipal Council. The aim is to turn Sofia into a green city accessible for everyone, with a preserved cultural and historical heritage, and tidy urban construction.
“If the capital city continues to develop following the development plan now in existence another 1 million people can come and settle in it. That is not a good thing for anyone. By changing the plan this prospect can be suppressed. The rates of urban construction will be reduced even though the big wave of relocation to Sofia has subsided and it is hardly likely there will be another one,” said Lubo Georgiev, team leader of “Vision Sofia”. In his words the population of Sofia currently stands at 1.5 million.
