The state matriculation exams for high school graduates give a much more accurate assessment of the level of university applicants than the entrance exams in higher education institutions, said Education Minister Krassimir Valchev. For example, he pointed out that at the matriculation exams the excellent grades in Bulgarian language and mathematics are about 10%, while at the university admission exams higher grades are more.

According to the Minister, Bulgarian universities should increase their requirements during the entire course of education, not at the admission exams only. The continuous assessment during the semesters should be increased, there should be more tasks and projects for students to form the final grade, the minister explained.
