A protest in defense of the rights of the Bulgarian minority in Ukraine was held in front of the Ukrainian Embassy in Sofia today. The protesters demanded that a Bulgarian consulate be opened in the Ukrainian city of Bolhrad (Bolgrad) and that the integrity of the Bulgarian community in the Bolhrad region be preserved.

The dissatisfaction of the protesters is caused by the plans for a territorial-administrative reform in Ukraine. The initiators of the protest also demanded that a monitoring mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe be sent to the region, such as the OSCE Observer Mission in the Donetsk region.
