Bulgaria is preparing for membership in the Nuclear Energy Agency

Bulgaria's future membership in the Nuclear Energy Agency from January 1, 2021 has been discussed in a telephone conversation between Bulgaria'sEnergy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and the Director-General of OECD's Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) William Magood. Bulgaria's candidacy has received support from member states. The OECD Council is also due to take a decision.
Minister Petkova said that for Bulgaria nuclear energy plays an important role in national, regional and European energy security. According to her, Kozloduy NPP has been providing over 30% of electricity generation in Bulgaria for over 40 years now, Petkova acquainted Magwood with the procedure for implementation of the second NPP in Bulgaria - Belene.
