Bulgaria's President vetoes Mineral Resources Act

Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev has imposed a veto on amendments to the Mineral Resources Act, adopted by parliament on July 22, 2020. This was announced on the presidency's website.
The Bulgarian head of state does not agree with certain provisions on concessions regarding the extraction of mineral resources, such as expanding the rights of concessionaires, the possibility of extending the term of concessions and the creation of environmental risks.
"The concessionaire is given expanded opportunities to carry out activities outside the boundaries of the deposit sites and to interfere with the environment and the landscape, posing a risk to human life and health," the president argues.
