“The police endeavoured to persuade the protesters last night to move the tents they had put up in Nezavisimost square in front of the council of ministers’ building, but they refused categorically,” said Chief Commissioner Krasimira Stoyadinova of the security police department of the Sofia Metropolitan Directorate of Interior at a briefing this morning.

“What is more, the protesters called people from the procession which was moving on to Eagles’ Bridge to return and back them. They also started collecting rocks and bottles in case they are attacked,” Chief Commissioner Krasimira Stoyadinova said. “At Eagles’ Bridge there were a lot of women which limited the capacity of the police to apply physical force against them,” she added.

Negotiations with the protesters will continue today “in order to restore public order and traffic at the intersections.”

No arrests were made during the night.
