The last Bulgarian submarine, Slava, is now a museum and awaiting visitors in the town of Beloslav, close to the city of Varna, on Bulgaria's Northern Black Sea coast.
The vessel’s last mission took place on 21 December, 2010. Now, the officers’ cabins, the armoury, as well as the surgical table, equipped with a full set of surgical instruments have all been thrown open to the public. A special amateur radio station is to open inside the submarine.
Captain Kamen Kukurov, Chief of Staff of the Bulgarian Navy, said for the BNR that restoring the country’s submarine fleet was of utmost importance as submarines are the most autonomous vessels and are best suited for defending the sovereignty of a maritime country.
