700 prosecutors and investigators will gather on Monday for a national meeting to discuss the topic "Upholding the independence of the Bulgarian prosecutor's office in order to prevent the risk of a serious violation of the rule of law under Art. 7 of the Treaty on European Union.” The procedure under Art. 7 aims to protect European values and may lead to the imposition of sanctions on a country in the event of a violation.

The reason for the meeting is the statement of the Prosecutorial Board of the Supreme Judicial Council, according to which the magistrates are subjected to political pressure and attempts are made to encroach on their independence and reputation, as well as to violate the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers.
