Bulgaria remains under EU monitoring over rule of law

The mechanism for monitoring justice and the rule of law in Bulgaria has not been lifted and this is clear from the written response of the Vice President of the European Commission Věra Jourová, Elena Yoncheva, MEP and author of the question to the European Parliament, has told the BNR.

The abolition of the mechanism requires a new decision of the Commission, after taking into account the remarks of the European Parliament, where the debate on the issue is still ongoing, added Yoncheva.

The assessment of the state of the rule of law is becoming a condition for the Member States to receive European funding, and it is even possible to reduce or suspend the funds, the MEP claims.
