The situation around the new building of Bulgaria's National Assembly where the anti-government protest entitled "Grand National Uprising" took place earlier today is calm at the moment. Most of the protesters have dispersed. They intend to return again for the upcoming large-scale protest tonight, BNR reports.

Participants in the protest have been detained earlier for carrying prohibited items, for taking away police paraphernalia, for getting on vehicles of the official authorities, the Ministry of Interior announced.

As a result of the clashes in front of the parliament earlier today, 45 persons got and needed emergency medical aid. 6 people have been hospitalized. They suffered from gassing, thrown objects, firecrackers, and more. Among the injured persons there are protesters, police officers and journalists.

The Electronic Media Council has come up with an official statement condemning any act of violence which violates human rights and freedoms. "Democracy is a dialogue, not a war. Violence is not an argument, but powerlessness in the face of free speech,"  the media regulator states.
