The Unification of Bulgaria, which we celebrate on September 6, is also a holiday of the second largest Bulgarian city. Traditionally, celebrations in the “Capital of the Unification” will begin with a prayer service by Metropolitan Nikolay of Plovdiv.
Men, women and children will commemorate the great historical event with a reenactment. They will play the roles of the main historical figures who contributed to the Unification of a previously divided Bulgaria. In order to make the historical reenactment as authentic as possible, the participants from the Rodolyubie Committee have recreated the uniforms of the Rumelia militia on the basis of photos and documents from the end of the 19th century.
On the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the Unification of Bulgaria, the Regional History Museum in Plovdiv opens its doors for free visits.
Plovdiv residents and guests of the city can also see the exhibitions "Bulgarian National Revival" and "Unification of Bulgaria since 1885".
You can see part of the collection of artifacts and works of art bearing the symbolism of the Unification, in the article “Plovdiv keeps memory of the glorious day of Bulgarian Unification in special exhibition".
