Traffic at Bulgaria’s border check points with Romania in September continues to be heavy at certain times of day. Tourists from Romania choose to spend their holidays on Bulgaria’s northern black Sea coastline because of the fine beaches and the bargain prices at the local hotels. Nevertheless, there is an enormous decline in the number of tourists visiting the country this summer. A mere 372,000 foreign tourists spent their holidays on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast in the June-end of August period, Ministry of Tourist data show, whereas in previous years more than 5 million tourists from abroad came to the country over the same period. Still, many Bulgarians chose to spend their holidays in this country this summer – an increase of 15% compared to last year.
