Bulgaria’s business opposes changes to tax system

It is not acceptable to change a functioning tax system that provides a balanced budget, the position of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on occasion of the tax reforms proposed by the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) reads.

In a difficult to predict economic situation and expectations for decline in GDP of over 7%, the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry contends that each change to the tax system may create chaos among business and citizens and may have negative effect on tax collection.

Several days ago, CITUB came up with several proposals: a minimum non-taxable income equal to the minimum monthly salary, 15% tax on the income of natural and legal persons and reduction of the VAT rate from 20% to 15%. Currently, the natural and physical persons pay 10% income tax.
