Some Bulgarians will never get infected with Covid-19
Without having being sick, some people already have cellular immunity to Covid-19, deputy director of Bulgaria's National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases Prof. Iva Hristova said. In an interview with the Bulgarian National Television, she commented that this was probably the result of cross-reactivity with other coronaviruses circulating for years. "This means that part of the population will never get sick or will feel the disease very lightly," said Prof. Hristova and confirmed the fact that men get sick more often and develop more serious symptoms than women.
Number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients in Bulgaria rises
In the last 24 hours, 69 new cases of Covid-19 have been registered in Bulgaria. Of the 1,278 PCR tests performed, 5.4% returned positive. The highest number of new cases is reported in Sofia - 21, Montana - 12, and Blagoevgrad - 7. There are currently 917 treated in hospital, as 56 are in intensive care units. 30 people were cured in the last 24 hours, and three patients with Covid-19 died.
There is no need to alter anti-epidemic measures, Health Minister says
“Even though the number of coronavirus hospitalizations has been going up, there is no danger to the healthcare system over Covid-19,” said Minister of Health Kostadin Angelov, the BNR reports. “The system has enough hospital beds and medical staff. Over the past few days we have seen a rise by around 1% in hospital bed occupancy – from 10% to 11%. The increase in intensive care units is from 4 to 4.8%. These figures show that that we need not to alter measures in Bulgaria,” Minister Angelov added.
Maria Gabriel is under quarantine
EU Commissioner Maria Gabriel is under quarantine for 7 days after a confirmed case of Covid-19 in a member of her team. In her Facebook account, Gabriel wrote: “Yesterday a positive PCR test for Covid-19 of a member of my team was confirmed. Observing all the requirements and the current regulations, it is imperative that I isolate myself for the next 7 days. I feel good and have no symptoms. I wish all of you to be healthy and to observe the precautions, which protects you and the people around you."
29,000 jobs have been saved in tourism
“Despite the blow the tourist industry suffered due to Covid-19, 29,000 jobs in Bulgaria have been saved,” said Minister of Tourism Mariyana Nikolova in Plovdiv.Minister Nikolova paid a visit to Plovdiv on the occasion of the start of the academic year at the University of Food Technologies in the city. According to her, as a result of the efforts made by the state and the urgent social and economic measures taken Bulgaria was awarded a safety and hygiene stamp by the World Travel and Tourism Council.
Bulgarian to take part in summit dedicated to Covid-19
Antoaneta Velikova is the only Bulgarian selected to participate in the upcoming peace summit dedicated to the problems related to Covid-19. The forum is organized by the Global Peace Chain and will take place in Istanbul 15-18 October, with the participation of 200 young people aged 18-40 from all over the world. 37-year old Anoaneta Velikova from Veliko Turnovo, who is a licensed translator with the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, is to take part in the discussions on education in the conditions of pandemic.
