Bulgaria makes progress in protecting national minorities

Bulgaria is making progress in implementing the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, the latest report of the Council of Europe reads, BTA informs.

The authorities participate in the fight against Anti-Semitism. Funding of religions is commensurate with the benefits to the Muslim community. The number of Roma children going to school has increased as a result of coordinated efforts for access to education. Legislation against hate speech is satisfactory, but cases of penalties based on hate crime are not common. The document advises Bulgaria to undertake immediate action to elaborate new broadly agreed Roma Strategy.
