Bulgarian Chief Mufti criticizes Charlie Hebdo

Photo: Archive

The chief mufti has strongly condemned the latest issue of the French magazine Charlie Hebdo, which features a caricature of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. A statement posted on the mufti's website reads that Charlie Hebdo is a satanic magazine. The cover of the latest issue has hit rock bottom with shamelessness, big eyes, vulgarity and disrespect for human rights and dignity, the statement says.

According to the mufti, not only the caricatures of the prophet but also those of Erdogan are unacceptable. It is pointed out that Charlie Hebdo publish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, which "antagonize our world." According to the mufti, freedom of speech must be "within the framework of human ethics."
