Minister Gent Cakaj

The Bulgarian-Albanian Friendship Society - Korca have spread on social networks a declaration against the slanders made by the Macedonian Association "Ilinden"-Tirana, BGNES reported. The Ilinden Association condemned a statement by Albanian Deputy Foreign Minister Gent Cakaj. On October 15 in Sofia, the Minister said that "the Bulgarian minority is a valuable bridge between the two peoples."

“Ilinden” claims that the minister insulted the Macedonian minority in Albania with a "historical lie about the presence of Bulgarians in Albania". The Bulgarian-Albanian Friendship Society recalls that the Bulgarian minority in Albania is an integral part of the Albanian state and has lived there for centuries, long before the Macedonian identity of the mid-20th century emerged.
