Students from the foreign-language high school in the city of Shumen (northeastern Bulgaria) have won the award for best video in the international project "Village Corner". The aim of the initiative is to encourage cooperation between students from different countries, thus contributing to broadening their horizons. Our neighbours from Romania and Serbia, as well as students from Lithuania, were in the group of the Bulgarian team.

The regulation provides for participants to make videos of up to 7 minutes in which to tell 7 interesting facts about their homeland. 10th grader Boris Ivanov revealed details about the creation of the awards as their best video:

"We decided to take an example from the videos for different countries broadcast on National Geographic. They start with the nature of a country, go through its culture and finally present interesting foods.”

To show most of the beauty of his hometown, Boris and his classmates decided to shoot their video next to the monument above the city - the impressive memorial complex "Creators of the Bulgarian state". The seven elements with which the Bulgarian students describe their homeland in the video are the Bulgarian yoghurt, the rose oil, the Devil's Throat Cave, the national folk costumes, Bulgarian history, the mummers and the traditional bread.

"Bulgarian bread is used in many of our traditional holidays. For the Bulgarians, bread means life. We learned how deeply food is connected to our roots and culture,” explains Boris.

He admits that he has learned many interesting facts about the other countries involved in the project and adds that he still does not know what award their team will receive. The greatest reward for him and his classmates, however, is that they are able to show how, even in these times of trials and tribulations, students continue to develop and conquer new heights.
