The European Commission has filed a lawsuit before the Court of Justice of the EU against Bulgaria for non-compliance with the court's decision on air quality and the constant violation of the limit values for particulate matter. The lawsuit could lead to fines, BTA has reported.

The European Commission has informed Bulgaria that it has not presented a long-term strategy for the renovation of buildings; that it does not fully implement European legislation on oil reserves; that it does not comply with all safety requirements for road tunnels. A final warning has also been sent due to persistent weaknesses in the implementation of EU nature protection legislation under Natura 2000.
