European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders is to hold an online debate on 10 December with Bulgarian parliament on the recommendations made in the Bulgaria report regarding the new horizontal mechanism on rule of law.

In an interview for the BNR Didier Reynders stated he wanted to find out how the government’s action plan will activate the reforms the recommendations concern. He noted that besides in Bulgaria, there is criticism of the functions of the prosecutor general in other EU member countries as well. Bulgaria is expected to show that there exist clear regulations regarding his accountability.

In his words the question of ownership of the media in Bulgaria is just as important. Other items on the agenda include the fight against corruption and the anti-government protests in the country.
