Bulgaria reports 60% drop in African swine fever

The European Commission has approved all costs Bulgaria made in 2020 to combat African swine fever and will reimburse the maximum 75 percent of them. The funds are over 7.5m euros, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency said.

In November 2020, an audit was conducted in Bulgaria by the European Commission to assess the measures implemented by the Bulgarian authorities. Commission representatives assessed highly the preparation and implementation of the plan. Since the beginning of 2020, Bulgaria has reported a decline of 60% in the number of disease outbreaks compared to 2019 and from 44 the number has dropped to 19, BTA reported.
