Astronomical winter starts on December 21 at 12:02 o'clock. This is the shortest day of the year - only 9 hours and 2 minutes for the latitude of Sofia.

On this date, the Sun will pass through the point of the winter solstice in the constellation of Sagittarius. The long-awaited great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn can also be observed by amateur astronomers.

According to meteorologist Georgi Rachev, a slightly warmer winter is to be expected with snowfalls close to normal levels for Bulgaria.
