Epiphany water blessing of battle flags held in Sofia

The traditional Epiphany water blessing ceremony of the battle and sacred flags of the Bulgarian army was held in front of the monument to the Uknown Soldier in Sofia.

Patriatch Neophyte, the President and commander-in-chief of the Bulgarian army Rumen Radev, Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov and Minister of Defence Krasimir Karakachanov took part in the ritual. The ceremony and all water blessing rituals at all garrisons in the country took place in observance of the anti-epidemic measures.

The first water blessing of the flags was held during the reign of Tsar Simeon I before the Battle of Achelous in 917. The sacred flags parade also celebrates the fact that no Bulgarian flag has been captured in Bulgaria‘s modern history.
