Bulgaria registers trend of consolidation of agricultural farms

Photo: Library

Over 60% of the country's agricultural farms have disappeared in the last 10 years. This is shown by the preliminary data from a census of all farms in Bulgaria, presented to BNR by Nikolay Marinov from the Agriculture General Directorate at Bulgaria's Ministry of Agriculture.
Currently, there are about 130,000 farms operating in Bulgaria, while ten years ago their number was about 360,000.
However, there is a tendency for an increase in the overall area of arable land and preservation of the number of farm animals, which means that farms in Bulgaria are consolidating and agriculture goes into the hands of fewer and fewer farmers.
