On January 7, 22.72 tons of textile waste, illegally delivered to Bulgaria, were returned to Italy. The cargo was detected in May 2020 during import into the country across the Danube Bridge - 2 at the Calafat-Vidin checkpoint. It was transported by a Bulgarian company, which services monitored as a high-risk one in terms of cross-border transportation of waste. An investigation established that the shipment was illegal under EU Regulation (EC) 1013/2006 on shipments of waste.
According to the rules, the cargo was returned by the person who arranged the transport, a company from Switzerland, to the Italian company mentioned in the documents that created the waste, BGNES agency reported.
