Potato growers: Retail chains sell German potatoes as Bulgarian

Photo: Library

The Bulgarian Association of Potato Producers has sent a signal to several state institutions insisting that the origin of the potatoes sold in large retail chains be checked. The branch organization has doubts that German potatoes, labelled as Bulgarian, are being sold in the foodstore chains in the country, which according to the producers is the fault of the suppliers of the chains.

At the moment the price of Bulgarian potatoes is much higher than that of imported ones.

The Association of Potato Producers clarifies that they have warned retail chains about the problem and that they do not object to the sale of imported potatoes, but to attempts to mislead consumers, BNR's Veselina Milanova reported.
