“GERB will not submit any one of the changes to the Election Code, proposed by the President,” stated GERB party MP Toma Bikov, formulating the position of the ruling party. “The proposal is for parliament, in the little time it has left, to make changes to the electoral legislation which affect its very foundations. Such an approach would breach trust in the election process,” Toma Bikov stated.

Atanas Zafirov, deputy chairman of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party on his part stated that reasonable changes to the Election Code can be made provided there is good organization. “Voting by mail is a good idea though it cannot be implemented because the time for active registration is over,” he said, BTA reports
