Bulgaria is the country in the EU with the second biggest plunge in new car sales for 2020, or a drop of 37%, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.

Croatia is the country which has taken the biggest plunge at 42.8%. But 36,005 new cars were purchased in that country which has a population of 4 million, whereas in Bulgaria, with a population of 6.9 million, this figure stands at 22,368.

Sales took the most dramatic plunge in Bulgaria in November and December – by 45.2% and 40.3% compared to a year earlier.

For the EU the drop is by 3 million vehicles, or 24%, the BTA reports. All markets register a two-digit drop. The main cause of the contraction of the market cited is the imposition of restrictive measures throughout Europe to curb the second wave of Covid-19.
