Bulgaria hopes to have new nuclear power capacity within 10 years

The government has approved a report on the possibilities of building a new reactor on site 2 at Kozloduy NPP. The environment assessment has approved the technology of the American AP 1000 units and the Russian technologies for Belene NPP, Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said. In the report, the experts support realization of Unit 7 at Kozloduy NPP with available equipment from the Belene NPP project.

"I think that after the 7thunit, we could go on to built 8th one," Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said, pointing out that the projects were in accordance with EU goals for climate neutrality by 2050 and diversification of energy resources. A model for financing of the new capacity is to be prepared, BTA reported.
