According to the analysis of the National Center for Public Health and Analysis, between 2015 and 2019 the number of newborns in Bulgaria decreased by 1000 to 2000 babies per year. Currently, there are twice less midwives in Bulgaria than needed. Their average age is 55 years. That is why in 2021 the medical universities in Bulgaria are planning to admit more freshmen to study midwifery, the letter further reads, BTA reports.
