At a meeting with Bulgaria’s Consul General Svetoslav Ivanov, Chairman of the Odessa Regional State Administration, Sergei Grinevetsky supported the idea of opening a Bulgarian school in Odessa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported. The question was first raised by Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva during her visit to Ukraine at the end of last year. The Odessa mayor's office has proposed granting the status of a school with extended study of Bulgarian language, traditions and history to one of the schools in the city.

Grinevetsky and Ivanov have also discussed the upcoming celebration of the 200th anniversary of the founding of Bolhrad, as well as the opening of Hristo Botev's house-museum in the village of Zadunaevka. The Bulgarian community in Ukraine is the largest among a total of 133 nationalities living in the Odessa region.
