Bulgaria accused of inhumane treatment of animals

International animal welfare organisation Animals' Angels, based in Germany, has filed a complaint with the European Commission over inhuman treatment of animals in Bulgaria, BTA reported.

According to Animals' Angels, Bulgaria systematically violates EU legislation on animals, especially when it comes to transportation. The organization has called on Brussels to initiate infringement procedure against Sofia.

The organisation say animals were often transported in large numbers in badly-maintained and heavily polluted vehicles. Sick and injured animals were also transported and animals were abused in order to force them enter the vehicles.
