Bulgarian women have their first child at youngest age in EU: Eurostat

Bulgaria is the country in the EU where women give birth to their first child at the youngest age, according to Eurostat. The average age at which  Bulgarian women give birth to their first child was26.3 years in 2019, according to Eurostat. Romania ranks second in the union, with women there giving birth to their first child under the age of 27. 

Yet Bulgaria follows the general trend in the EU for an increase in the age at which women give birth to their first child, albeit more smoothly. In 2018 it was 26.2 years, in 2017 - 26.1, and in 2010 - 25.6 years of age.

The average age of women in the EU at the birth of their first child was 29.4 years in 2019, according to the survey. In 2013, it was under 29, investor.bg reports.
