The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church adopted a directive in connection with the forthcoming general elections in Bulgaria on April 4, the Bulgarian Patriarchate announced. The Holy Synod notes again that the clergy cannot participate in local elections as candidates for mayors and municipal councilors, as well as in Parliamentary elections.
The directive also states that prayers and water blessings at the request of political parties, individuals and associations can be performed only in Orthodox temples, and the address made by the clergy should be of a spiritual nature.
