There are Bulgarian women who fall victim to online scammers whom they fall in love with and start sending them money. Dozens of reports have been received for hundreds of thousands of euros sent to the accounts of criminals, usually from North Africa, the Directorate General Combating Organized Crime reported.

"The transfers range from 5,000 to 10,000 euros, but there was also a case that occured two months ago, when a young Bulgarian woman sent over 200,000 euros," Vladimir Dimitrov, head of the Cybercrime Department at the directorate said. He warned that scammers use stolen profile photos - most often of masculine-looking military men, doctors or UN mission staff.
